Thank you! Will fixative make acrylic paint permanent?
Acrylic paints just like all other paints will not adhere permanently to a smooth [shiny] surface because the surface is sealed and there is no penetration...acrylics and oils hold to these surfaces by cohesion that is where both the paint and the surface perfectly match each other leaving no pockets of air no matter how small. This works best when the paint applied is fluid for obvious reasons...coating the finished piece beyond the image area even a 1/4 of an inch with gloss medium will help. Also acrylics become harder after a day or two and then are less likely to scratch easily. With canvas and paper there is rooting into the surface by the binder in the paint so they don't scrape off. That is why so many surfaces are sanded before paint ...it allows the paint to grip the surfaceWill fixative make acrylic paint permanent?
Fixative might work. It basically puts another layer of acrylic, or whatever, over the top. For the most part tho acrylic is permanent, it's plastic, so...
If you work slightly thicker with your paints it might be harder to scrape off...
a matte spray or varnishing spray good work. Just use it outdoors or a window to vent.
