You'll need to apply the watercolor and acrylic in separate layers to protect your brushes. Acrylic is made to be opaque, but thinning it a bit with water will help it to look a little more transparent. Keep the water below 30% of your mix, though. It weakens the paint and causes it to break down.





Acrylic paint can be made to look like water color. The drawback with using it that way is that it doesn't come back off the paper the way watercolor will. There are no lifting techniques for acrylic paint. Once it's there, it's there.





Several manufacturer's of artist's materials make a watercolor canvas. It will say on the package whether it needs to be gesso-ed or not.
