Is acrylic paint compatible with ceramics?

I bought a ceramic piece that I want to paint, but I only have acrylics. Are these compatible with ceramics? Is acrylic paint compatible with ceramics?
It is - but not for firing.

But after one has made or bought a ceramic piece and it is cool it could be painted with acrylics BUT maybe try the following for better results.:

Pebeo

Vitrea

both available www.cheapjoes.com and www.dickblick.com

They can be set in a conventional oven.Is acrylic paint compatible with ceramics?
You could paint ceramics with acrylic after firing them, but not before. If you want to paint before you fire, then you need to use several coats of a glaze. This gives ceramic pieces that glossy shine.
