Can you blend acrylic paint markers like regular paint?

I just bought acrylic paint markers, and I haven't used them before. is there a way you can blend marker colors on paper like regular acrylic paint? Can you blend acrylic paint markers like regular paint?
It depends upon the type of paper you are using. If it is high quality and contains cotton or wool threading then you can blend by coloring over one color with another but you will need to use specific markers for each color blending if you intend to recreate the same color over again as the markers will become contaminated with whichever color you blended with.

Can you use acrylic paints for water color?

Or is there a certain type of paints you have to buy? I haven't done this in a long time. Trying to remember thanksCan you use acrylic paints for water color?
You can use acrylics in the manner of watercolor, with similar effects, by thinning them down a LOT with water.

The difference is that the acrylics are always going to dry into a plastic film, even when watered down considerably. So you won't be able to do a lot of the lifting/blending/rewetting or edge-softening techniques you'd be able to do in watercolor.

On the plus side, though, acrylic watercolors are pretty much waterproof. Can you use acrylic paints for water color?
yeah you can get fluid acrylics from dickblick.com or artsupplywarehouse.com under the name of da vinci fluid acrylics, or on asw lukas cryl liquid acrylics

How should I shrink this sweater? 50% Acrylic 25% Alpaca 25% Wool?

Hi everyone,

I found some other answers on how to shrink wool and cotton sweaters; most said to wash in warm water and agitate.

I'm wondering if that process would work for a sweater that's 50% Acrylic, 25% Alpaca, and 25% Wool. It's a good sweater but it's really baggy.

What should I do? Thanks in advance! How should I shrink this sweater? 50% Acrylic 25% Alpaca 25% Wool?

  • How long does it take to get acrylic nails?

About 45 mins for just the nails.

then however long if you wanted them sprayed white tips with dimontes or whatever.

so overal about hour and half. How long does it take to get acrylic nails?
it depends on where you get them done. It takes me about 30 min or more. I hope this helps. You can also ask the place where you want to get them done at. They will probably have the best answer! How long does it take to get acrylic nails?
it takes from 30 min till and hour to get them done depending if there fast and what u want
usually over 45 minutes depending on what you want and how fast the person works. =)
If they are done with a dremmel, about 45 minutes to an hour
well for me it takes about 30 to 40
I have had faux nails for almost 3 years now. You should consider paying more money for gel nails rather than acrylic ones. The gel is a softer substance that is more natural looking and lasts longer. Acrylic will dry your nails out and eventually leave you with paper thin real nails. Over time acrylic nails also turn a yellowish color, while gels don't. If you don't have nails on currently, having the technician put on a full set can take up to an hour. Having any other detailing done could be up to 30 minutes more, plus drying time (10 mins).
well if they do a good job it should take about 40 min......but its worth it because in the end they look so nice!!:D
    usually 60-90 minutes

Why wont my mom let me have acrylic nails?

i want to get acrylic nails, but my mom wont let me. does anyone know of ways i could persuade her?Why wont my mom let me have acrylic nails?
i am 12 and i got fake nails but THEN WHEN I GOT THEM TO TAKE OFF OMG THEY HURTED SO BAD. THEM MY REAL NNAILS KEPT ON BRAKING. SO NOW I JUST GO TO THE NAIL SHOP EVERY WEEK AND GET MY REAL NAILS DONE AND GET A FRENCH TIP AND MY TOES TOO. OYU SHOULD NOT GET FAKE NAILS. MAYBE SOME FROM CVS BUT DNT GET THEM DONE. THEY HURT SO MUCHWhy wont my mom let me have acrylic nails?
They are terrible for your nails! That's probably why, and they are expensive to keep up. When you get them done they literally shave your nail down to almost nothing, that way they can put that crappy acrylic on it. Then you'll end up getting sick of them and it'll be however much you spent on them, down the drain, and sometimes they charge you a fee of going to take them off. Or you can use acetone to take it off yourself, but either way you still spend $4 or more to take them off.
Well first of all do you know why she isnt letting you? You may need to know that first. Have some facts that are true that help with your nails or whatever. You could, well shes your mom its kinda hard to say. If there is a health thing then my mom would know and never would let me get it. Question: Wat are acrylic nails?
DO NOT get acrylic nails. They're super-expensive (about $50 a month...which really adds up!) and they can trap bacteria and cause nail fungus. I had acrylic nails on one time and the acrylic ripped off when I hit it against something and took my while nail with it! It was incredibly painful! Also, no offense to anyone who has them, they look kinda trashy. Sorry but it's true!
    well personally , i don't think it's worth it

they look really nice but only for about a week

and when you get them off , your nails are thin and brittle .

it'd be a better idea to get a manicure and get a cute nail polish color .
she may think that fake nails are just not ok. My mom use to call them whore nails because of what the movies portray. sleazy girl with long fake nails. I don't know but thats what my mom thought.
she probably thinks your too young and still wants you to be her ';little girl.'; why dont you try getting those press on nails first and move up to acrylic ones little by little.
    lmaoo

i put on fake nails when i was like 11

if yur mom doesn't want you to do them, then don't

    jeez

its not the end of the world

    =
    |She doesn't want you looking like a mob wife. Also, they're expensive and difficult to take care of.
Well how old are you? If you're under 16 I really don't think it looks good anyways. Maybe your mom thinks so too!

What Glue/Adhesive is used to stick acrylic (plactic) to metal?

Hi, I just wanted to know what glue is used for sticking metal with acrylic thanks (for my project)

All answers are appreciated ASAP thanks. (By the way I searched it on the internet and got no straight answer)What Glue/Adhesive is used to stick acrylic (plactic) to metal?
    Hi,

This is a really great site for all gluing needs give it a shot http://www.thistothat.com/index.shtmlWhat Glue/Adhesive is used to stick acrylic (plactic) to metal?
Use a two-part epoxy, availble at any home center or hardware store. Rough up the acrylic and metal with some sandpaper to give the epoxy something to bite into. Follow instruction on tube.
I use CA {superglue} to add metal details to my plastic models.
depending on strenth if you want very strong use plexus.

Painting over nicotine stains? Should i use a oil-based primer or will a acrylic (latex) undercoat suffice?

Kilz is supposed to cover these kinds of stains. Walmart has this and a less expensive brand whose name I don't remember. I have used the Kilz as a ceiling paint which covered the smoke stains. It can be used for your primer.

During pregnancy is it alright to get acrylic nails done?

The only reason why I even ask is because I was told by a midwife at my OB's office that it is ok to paint your fingernails during pregnancy. I was just wondering if getting acrylic nails done can pose any danger. I don't really paint my nails, but a friend of mine wanted to take me to get our nails done, so I was just wondering.

    Oh, I'm 14 weeks 3 days.

Also, what is your opinion on the topic?During pregnancy is it alright to get acrylic nails done?
absolutely! as long as you are in a room where air is circulating and you're not suffocated with fumes, you have nothing to worry about.During pregnancy is it alright to get acrylic nails done?
I've always been a bit paranoid about acrylic nails, the people doing them must be wearing masks for a reason.

    ';The exposure to any potentially harmful materials would be so small that it doesn't make sense it would pose any danger. The only potential danger in acrylic nails would be the exposure to solvents, which people are worried about during pregnancy. But the key issue is dose. And common sense says you wouldn't be exposed to enough solvents from getting acrylic nails for there to be a problem. The people we worry about are the ones who are exposed to solvents all day long and are nauseated or sick from them.';
Getting your nails done should be fine... Im sure you will do it in a well ventilated area and not sniff the polish or glue ;)

It's things like dying your hair and being exposed to chemicals and some carcinogenic cleaning products you want to avoid.

Go have fun and get your nails done. Pedicures are great too since after a while you can't even see your feet lol.

I'm not sure if u were in doubt because of the fumes but the woman that does my nails is pregnant too and she said her doctor said its fine for her to keep working there.
i get my nails done every 3 weeks and im currently 38 weeks n 5 days, i have been goin since b4 i was pregnant, i asked my doc n she said it was ok..so i dont think it would do any harm, im almost due and the baby is as healthy as can be, and active..well hope this helps :)
Yes you can, make sure you have the little fan blowing in you're face or you are in a very well ventilated area! You're fine! Congrats!
perfectly fine... the smell in the nail shop my make you a little sick to your tummy.. but just fine.. but get your feet done too it feels soooo good trust me=]]

Is there any way to remove dried acrylic paint from carpeting?

My dog had gotten into red acrylic paint and left a dried, red stain on a cream carpet. After reading the hints for acrylic paint and for carpet stains, I decided to use the acrylic brush cleaner solution from my craft painting materials (It has an EZ AIR trademark and is manufactured by DCL Industries, LTD., is non-toxic, bio-degradable with no harmful solvents or fumes). I mixed it half and half with water and dabbed it on the stain with paper towel. Then kept dabbing with new sections of towel. I rinsed well with water to minimize any discoloring or bleaching of the carpet and it worked wonderfully. Is there any way to remove dried acrylic paint from carpeting?

  • How do you mix a rich purple without it being muddy (oil or acrylic)?

Any red or blue makes purple. try Alizerin Crimson and Ultramarine Blue. Cadmium red and Cerulian. Thalo bllue and bright red. Mix and match different shades until you find the one or ones you like. To tone it down you can add JUST a touch of yellow to it. You can add white to make a lighter shade or again Just a touch of black mixed in to make darker. This will work in both oils and acrylics. Good luck and Have fun!!How do you mix a rich purple without it being muddy (oil or acrylic)?
    Muddy?

Red and blue together make purple. As a general rule of thumb, you typically need more red than blue (blue is very rich).

If you don't want it to look muddy, don't add any other colors.

Use a small amount of white to lighten the purple to see if the shade is one that you like. Experiment with different amounts of red and blue, there are many variations. Good luck! How do you mix a rich purple without it being muddy (oil or acrylic)?
Both answers are excellent...I like the Alizarin and Ultramarine combination personally.

Is acrylic paint okay to use for baby foot print?

my son is 4 weeks old and i got some acrylic, water based paint to do a foot print, is this okay for babies skin?Is acrylic paint okay to use for baby foot print?
UM no.. it has too many corrosive chemicals in it .. I wouldn't want it on my skin, and I am not a baby... try a safer Oil BaseIs acrylic paint okay to use for baby foot print?
What sort of acrylic paint? If it is the art sort it should be okay as they are often used by children. We use acrylic paints with our kids in the classroom from a very early age. Just check that the label says non-toxic and be careful to only put the babies footprint in and wash it straight after. I did this with my niece for my sister when she was a little one. We used all sorts of bright colours and it is still stuck on the fridge 10 years later. It looks gorgeous and is a treasured keepsake.
I am a crafter myself. And a mom. Regular acrylic paint is not going to hurt. But do it quickly and wash it off with a little soap and water.

Even better, if you look you can find a little at home id kit, that has a skin safe ink. My mother found one when I had my last daughter. Look in the baby section or the craft section at the stores.

If nothing else the paint will be fine, but like I said just work quickly and wash off well.
There are non-toxic ink pads that you can use for this. Do not use Oil base paints, they can't be removed without toxic paint removers. Water based paints should be okay, but I would never just assume. Ask your doctor to be sure.
I wouldn't do that. Just in case. They sell ink pads that are safe for babies and paint too. Look for one of those. Good luck! =]
You could try acrylic paint that they use in early childcare centres - that must be safe as half the kids eat it! lol

We used ink for our son and it was a nightmare to clean up - there was ink everywhere!
    I wouldn't use it. Try a non-toxic inkpad instead.

Is acrylic paint really that different?

Is it different than all the others? Is acrylic paint really that different?
All paints use the same or similar pigments. The differences is in the base that the pigments are suspended in.

Acrylic and watercolor paints are water based, so they dry quickly (often within 15 minutes). Watercolors are quite transparent and often applied in thin layer after layer, until the desired depth or darkness is achieved. In watercolors, the paper white is usually the ';white'; used, rather than white paint. Acrylic can be thinned to get an effect much like watercolors, or can be applied thickly, straight from the tube to give a look similar to oil paints. White paint is usually used to create the whites.

Oil paint, on the other hand, is easily workable for two or more days, depending on the kind of oil emulsion. So, you have to plan ahead more what colors you are going to paint onto or into the wet paint, or wait as long as several weeks (or months) for each layer to dry before applying the next. Oil paint can also be thinned and used as a glaze over a dried acrylic or oil painting.

The kind of paint is often a very personal decision, depending on what effects the artist wants to accomplish and what the artist is most comfortable working with.Is acrylic paint really that different?
    Oh yeah!

It dries faster. it smells better... unless you are an oil paint addict and you actually like the turp smell.

    Pebeo

    Vitrea

You could paint ceramics with acrylic after firing them, but not before. If you want to paint before you fire, then you need to use several coats of a glaze. This gives ceramic pieces that glossy shine.

    Remove acrylic paint from clothing?

Are there any products or special techniques you can use to remove acrylic paint from fabric? I got paint on my cotton T-shirt today and have been at it all night trying to peel it off with a knife. It's not working too well.

Anything is welcome. Thanks!Remove acrylic paint from clothing?
you can try GooGone, but good luck.... usually when i get it on me its on there for good.Remove acrylic paint from clothing?
If you can't get to soap and water right away, your best bet is to let the paint dry without disturbing it. This will prevent the paint from being pushed deeper into the fabric. When you can finally get to it, stretch the fabric over a hard object, like a wood block, and soak it in a 50/50 mixture of hot water and household ammonia. This will soften the acrylic somewhat and should allow you to scrub it out with a nylon fingernail brush if you scrub the heck out of it, so long as the paint is not deep in the material.
    McCall,

I learned many years ago that paint just does not come out of clothing. I have tried everything that has hit the market to save the clothes I have gotten paint of all sorts on, but to no avail. Even the specialty products. So I devised a better method to save them. I paint over, or add to, the accidental paint with a deliberate design. I have added all sorts of trims, sequins, rhinestones, leather laces, etc., etc., etc. Everyone thinks I'm just creative (which I am) and the only people who know are the ones I tell.

ThanksMy acrylic drawers in my fridge don't slide easily - what's a good lubricant?
A good cooking oil spray like PAM should do the trick. My acrylic drawers in my fridge don't slide easily - what's a good lubricant?
I wouldn't use anything that would contaminate food (WD 40 or other petroleum products for example).

Paraffin or candlewax are both good choices (Candlewax works great on sticky zippers).
talcum powder is good, paraffin sticks also, oils may run and stain surroundings
how about cleaning them then take some wax paper and rub it on the drawers.
    Try WD 40
I'd try a thin film of Crisco shortening

For acrylic painting, is it okay to paint directly onto a blank canvas without priming it?

Im not sure if blank canvas is already primed and stretched. Do i just go ahead and paint directly on it?For acrylic painting, is it okay to paint directly onto a blank canvas without priming it?
You may paint directly onto a canvas with acrylics. If you like a smoother flow of the paint then putting a gel medium on first will help the paint flow onto the canvas easier. Enjoy! For acrylic painting, is it okay to paint directly onto a blank canvas without priming it?
I would think so, because acrylics do not have oils in it to rot the fabric. However, I always prime everything first, for longevity! :)
    sure...whenever floats your boat
    That's what I do.
You can paint right on it! Unless you stretched it yourself it should already be coated for you. Even if it isnt, you should be fine if you just start to paint. Have fun!!
    I don't know
If the canvas is on a wooden frame or';stretcher'; then it is stretched. If the surface of the canvas is smooth to touch, white and feels stiff when you press your finger onto it then it is most likely primed. To test, place a small amount of paint near an edge and then with a damp cloth wipe it off. If the paint does not come off and leaves a stain then it is most likely not primed. You will need to apply some gesso and tighten the wedges in the stretcher so the canvas is not ';limp'; when the gesso dries.

Has anyone ever heard of using acrylic in their mouth?

My friend chipped her tooth and has been filling it in with nail acrylic. To me this doesn't seem safe but she claims she's been doing this for almost a year.Has anyone ever heard of using acrylic in their mouth?
I don't know what chemicals are in the nail acrylics so I can't say if it's safe or not.

What I do know is that it will not stay very well. Tell her to go to a dentist.

Composite dental fillings stay on the tooth much better because the tooth surface is etched first for better bond strength. It's much more durable, better-sealing, and better-looking than nail acrylics.Has anyone ever heard of using acrylic in their mouth?
If she's been doing this for a year it's possible her chip has some decay. A dentist can fill the chip so the edges are smooth and flush with the rest of her tooth. That way there is not a risk of decay getting under her ';home job';.

I bought some canvas yesterday. Is acrylic paint the same as oil?

I haven麓t bought the paint because I don麓t know what to use on canvas.I bought some canvas yesterday. Is acrylic paint the same as oil?
You may use both oil paint and acrylic paint on canvas, but they are VERY different mediums. Acrylic dries very quickly and tends to look flat. Oil has a very different look. It takes much longer to dry and can be manipulated more---blended on the canvas, work with glazes etc. Since you are just beginning, I recommend you look at examples of both oil and acrylic painting, and choose your medium based on the look you are going for. Even though both mediums can be manipulated to do different things, they tend to lend themselves to a certain look unless you know how to manipulate them. And don't forget to prime your canvas!I bought some canvas yesterday. Is acrylic paint the same as oil?
no, there very differnt, acrylic is cleaned up with water and is less vibrant while oilis cleaned with turpentine and is much more vibrant. but the canvases u bought are most likely acrylic primed which is good for both. they also now market artisan oils, which are water mixable. meaning no turpentine is needed. check out this link for some pro's and cons of both. http://painting.about.com/cs/paintingkno鈥?/a>

now if you want my opinion i only like oils. i use some acrylics for differnt things but only oils CAN CAPTURE THE TRUE ESSENCE of what a scene is, whether it is a landscape, portrait etc. the lucious, thick feel of rubbing oil paint underneath your brush is irrsestable. look in all textbooks u wish to. all the famous artists in history used oils, not one used acrylics. not even jackson pollock used acrylics, just thined oil paint. that is my opinion.

u know something else? why should people put the idea that a price means the better of two art forms. would u want to get acrylics that are less vibrant than oils just cause it saves u about 2 green peices of paper?? although i say all this i do like old holland acrylics, only kind that fit my standards.
No, acrylic paint dries much faster than oil paints. It depends on if you want to work slowly or quickly.
    No, oil is more runny.
Oil and acrylic are very different. Oil paint is oil solubale, while acrylic is water soluble. They can not be mixed together. But you can paint oil over dry acrylic paint but not the other way around. Oil dries longer but there are chemicals to make them dry faster, acrylic dries very fast compared to oil but you can add retarders. Oil paint has colors that are more natural looking and have a dipper tone than acrylics too. Oil paint is more stable than acrylic paint because acrylic dries a little darker when oil does not.
no that is why one is called oil and one is called acrylic. I have never liked oil paint for it takes a long time to dry sometimes days. Acrylic i love because it blends nicely, drys quickly and if you get it all over you and you will..it easily washes and cleans up. Acrylic is a great paint to start with anyway. how exciting your first painting? wow i would love to experience that for the first time again.
No, acrylic and oils are not the same but either one can be used on a canvas. I started out with acrylics which gave me some good practice but have since moved on to painting with oils. Before i did though i checked out books from the local library to learn the basics of oil painting. My art can be checked out at hellosanantonio.com under artist name ''Guerro'' in the local artists section.
both paints can be used on canvas. i personally prefer acrylic, but that could just be because i don't really know what i'm doing with oil.

a lot of artists favor oil paints, but they do take a very very long time to dry.... like months before they are considered completely dry. i think artists favor oils because they are so malleable and versatile, but keep in mind that they require more skill to be used properly.

    pros of oil paints:

    - very malleable and versatile

    - some say they help to create a more life-like image (because they're versatile i suppose)

    - there are probably other benefits that i don't know about because i don't use them

    cons of oil paint:

    - they take forever to dry

    - they require a lot of technical skill to really maximize their potential

    - they are significantly more expensive than acrylics

    - they do not wash out of clothing - since they are oil-based and not water-based (acrylics are water based)

    - you need turpentine or something like it in order to get oil paints off of your brushes, etc. turpentine STINKS and can give you a headache.

    pros of acrylics:

    - cheaper

    - supposedly washable (they dont *always* come out of clothing, but you have a chance of them washing out, at least... and they wash right off of skin)

    - easier to work with at first (this one... im not sure that they are easier when you are a beginner, i just know that as a beginner you may be wasting the potential of oils if you don't know how to make them do what you want)

    cons of acrylics:

    - it is harder to make acrylics ';chunky'; looking. when you see a painting with big chunks and a lot of texture, you're probably looking at an oil painting (or a mixed media piece that uses actual cloth or objects to create the texture). if you try to layer too much with acrylics, chipping occurs. however, i only use acrylics and i *never* paint anything with less than like 5 layers, and i haven't really had a problem.... i just have had art teachers say ';that's going to crack, right there';... but it never does.

    - acrylics are less malleable than oils.

all in all, as a beginner, i would advise going with acrylics. i could be partial to these though, because i only use acrylics. BUT, i only use acrylics right now because i just haven't really learned to use oils yet.

edit: you could also choose to go with oils, because after all, the sooner you start experimenting with oil paints, the faster you'll become proficient with them. i guess it all depends on how good you want to become and what you want to do with the specific painting you are working on.

After the paint is thoroughly dry, apply several coats of Polyurethane.

I prefer the Water Based Polyurethane. It works great.

How long on average do watercolour/acrylic/oil paint take to dry?

watercolors can either me minutes if the layer is thin or hours if the paper is made soaking wet.

Acrylics usually take 30 minutes for thin layers, and up to a day for thick layers.

Oils take much longer, 2-7 days to dry on the surafce, and up to a year to dry completely.

raw and burnt sienna's and umbers, along with yellow ochre take 2-3 days to dry for oils.

blues, yellows, blacks, titanium white and other mixtures take 4-6 days to dry

Alizarin crimson, permanent rose and other reds in oil paint take 7-8 days to dry. remember, thats only dry on the surface though. How long on average do watercolour/acrylic/oil paint take to dry?
It varies for all paints depending on just how thick the layers are, but there's an average. The brand and mediums and oils you add change drying time a lot too.

Watercolour: a couple of seconds to 3 weeks, on average it's completely dry overnight

Acrylic: A couple of seconds to several months. On average a painting will be dry over night or in a couple of days

Oil: Minutes to Years. On average some wait about a week between layers.

For very thin films, this time may be a few days, while films of 1/4 inch thickness or more will take months and even years to be completely dry.How long on average do watercolour/acrylic/oil paint take to dry?
Watercolour and acrylics - a few minutes to an hour.

Oil paint - that depends. If you thin it out with turpentine, it's dry in a couple of hours. If you use a mixture of turps and linseed oil, a few days. Linseed oil on its own, longer. No thinner whatsoever, up to six years.
My girlfriend ( whos got a bigger head than me , thus a bigger brain ) has said that a watercolour dries in about 24hrs proply ( thats how she spk , dont blame me lol ) .. acrylic takes around a week ..oil paints well ... she said a month .. hope this helps ..
Watercolor, less than an hour or so. Acrylic, depending on how thick or if retarders are used, a day or two. Oils can cure for up to 6 months or even a year or more.
Depends on atmosphere. Acrylics, minutes; watercolour, hours; oils. weeks.
    watercolours 5 mins maybe

never used the others but longer, esp oil.

    depends on thickness

lol nails okay sure y not..

but tonenails dont go crazii with it now..

    just get them pianted.!

best of luck. my wishes to ya.!What are the disadvantages to having acrylic toe nails?
The main disadvantage is that acrylic is harder than gel so there's more buffing involved when you get them refilled.

It's good if you're wanting a repair, like a nail that has had damage to it, it's growing back and you want to disguise it with a tip and acrylic.

Otherwise i would recommend gel. They look awesome if you find a good nail tech, especially the ';french'; look.

Other disadvantages with both acrylic and gel is that you always run the risk of problems with moisture if they lift.

You need to maintain them by getting them refilled when they've grow out enough (4 to 6 wks) and get them done with someone who is experienced and does a good job so there's little to no lifting in between refills.

    Good Luck!

man i think that is so ugly and then put a nail on it that just doesnt look good at all then you might brake it if you hit your toe

I found some at Home Depot; they didn't have a huge selection because most of the covers already had designs on them, but you should be able to find some there. Lowe's may also have some, too. Hope this helps you--good luck. Ann
I've seen them at my local Home Depot. I bet craft stores like Michael's and A.C. Moores sell them. Check there.

soak cotton strips in acetone, wrap them around your fingers. Wrap the cotton strips in aluminum foil and soak your fingers in a GLASS bowl with water as hot as you can stand it. You may have to change it a few times, but it'll definitely get it off quickly without damaging your nails! How can i take off my acrylic nails off at home other than ripping them off?
basically do what everyone else is saying and that will help. if they don't fall off then also take something like a credit card to slid under them to help them peel off..

how long have you had them on? it all depends on if they have grown out very much or not.
Go to a drug store and buy some acetone, put it on cotton, put the cotton with acetone on your nail and cover the cotton with aluminum paper and let there for a minute, this is great and easier than other methods.
another way beside soaking them is taking the fingernail clippers and easing them underneath from the side. i promise if done right that it wont hurt. and just clip away from the side! that way it wont rip the nail off that you had growing under
take a small bowl with nail polish remover, and put that bowl into another bowl with hot water. it works faster that way
soalk them in 100% acetone arcrylic nail and polishj remover available at your local drugstore
go to a drug store and buy some acetone

i bought some at target and it got them off really good
soak finger nails in nail polish remover
soak fingers in acetone based nail polish remover...it dissolves them.
use pure acetone and soak but it takes a really long time

  • Is it safe to paint with acrylic paint ?

If an artist paints with acrylic paint, is it safe to clean your paintbrushes in the sink. Will the acrylic paint that goes down the drain be toxic ?Is it safe to paint with acrylic paint ?
i wash my paint down the sink but if still unsure

google i did and turns out that it was a yahoo question a year agoIs it safe to paint with acrylic paint ?
No they are not toxic, painting with acrylics is nothing like painting with oils where you would have to worry about how you would dispose of them and making sure the area you are working in is well ventilated. Like watercolors, acrylics are prefectly safe to dispose of down the drain.
Acrylic is sort of like a water-based plastic. Once it dries, it is impossible to make soluble again.

Therefore, if you have chunks of acrylic going down the drain, then it is like shoving pieces of plastic down your drain. If it is not dry, then it is safe.
If you are concerned about the environment, try looking for paints with low vtc. Every year new and less toxic paints are coming out on the market. I'm sure if you google it you will find a large selection to pick from..
Yes..they are......but that doesn't matter so much if it goes down the drain as much it matters if it goes down'yr' food pipe..!!!!!!!!

So beware while doing out with them.......

I would use an epoxy that is mainly for repairing glass or windshields. You can get this 2 part epoxy at any major building supply company. It comes in a syringe that has 2 reservoirs, and as it is pumped out the 2 liquids mix to make a super strong epoxy.

Brush this epoxy over each graphic and allow to dry. This stuff should even be able to go thru the dishwasher.

Why not scrape it all off and use paint 'specially formulated for glass? All the craft stores have it.

Acrylic paints - Why do they come in series?

Why are acyrlic paint sold in series? And the higher the series go, the more expensive it is? Are they better?Acrylic paints - Why do they come in series?
Each company has their own brand series. A series of paints from one company is different from another, that is why is it good to stick to one brand.

Paint comes in different qualities. You really do get what you pay for.

The Higher series of paint,....higher in price

It uses natural pigments. Natural matterials (ground stone, ect.)

    Last much longer.

Natural pigments are more pure and brillant.

The lower series of paint,.......lower in price

It uses artifically made pigments. Substitutes (chemicals, ect.)

    Fades in sunlight

Colors seem faded and less brillant

    Contains more binding agent.

    Look more shiny and transparent.

In the end, you really do get what your moneys worth, if you buy the higher series. It is smart to start with the middle series paints becuase they are affordable and half desent.

Once you get well known as an artist,...you may be able to aford a higher series to paint with. You upgrade as you become more sucessful.

Personally, I would never buy the lowest series. Good luck!Acrylic paints - Why do they come in series?

Can someone help me with acrylic nails?

I am a crossdresser and will be getting a few weeks off of work next month. I've been thinking of getting acrylic nails, but am not sure if it is a good idea. How hard are they to remove, and will anyone be able to tell? Can someone help me with acrylic nails?
You could get them done really short and have them clear. That way you wont necessarily have to have them removed. But if you absolutely don't want to go that route, then you can have them removed easily by going back to the salon. If you don't get something that is EXTREMELY obvious, like long, red nails then I am sure that no one really pays all that much attention. Your safest bet would probably be to just get them really short. If you get round tips as opposed to square ones, I think that would be even less noticeable. Can someone help me with acrylic nails?
Acrylic nails are NOT hard to get off it hurts a LITTLE bit but it's not that bad and it only takes about an hour usually less.

And if you want to get acrylic nails go for it their fun and their WAY cute!

    Have Fun!
If they're done well, they will look real. Go to a good salon. In order to have them removed, you need to go back to where you have them done. The process doesn't take long at all and it isn't painful or difficult.

I have a 50 gallon acrylic aquarium and I was wondering?

If it is set up on a dresser and the sides are hanging over a tiny bit would that affect the tank at all or cause it to crack?I have a 50 gallon acrylic aquarium and I was wondering?
I would not use the desser because once you fill the tank you looking at a couple hundred lbs. Acrylic is hard to crack for 1 is 3x stronger than glass. To crack it would take a lot. I'm sure how crafty you are but you can build a nice stand with a few 2 x4's and a sheet of plywood. If time is an issue, you can get a stand from walmart for 70.00 but you have to put it together. Bottom line is not to use the dresser because it may not be suitable for the weight distribution. And people its ACRYLIC...NOT GLASS...WHICH MEANS NOOOOOOOOOO SILICONE.I have a 50 gallon acrylic aquarium and I was wondering?
LOL. DUDE it's ACRYLIC not INVINCIBLE!!!. lol. no that is not a good idea to any length. that is alot of weight as well. make sure that the surface that u are putting this tank on can withstand 500lbs. plus.

if u put it on that dresser, u will ruin a beautiful tank.

u r better off buying a stand that is made for it or have a professional mak u a custom stand for you.

    good luck.
it will probly cause the tank to crack. i wouldnt suggest it.

my tank is on a bookshelf and the corner hangs off like 2 or 3 centimeters and you can tell it is beginning to crack on the side i am working on moving it to a new location
50 gallons on a dresser huh? You do realize that is 400lbs of water right? Not to mention the weight of the tank and the subsrate. I would probably get an iron stand or something more stable just to be on the safe side.
It's best to have the stand that matches the size of the aquarium. I'm not sure, but if you do it anyway, I'd check the seals and maybe reinforce them before doing so.

    Good luck.
not a good idea.. get a piece of plywood to put on top of the dresser and then the tank..

tiny bit...ya mean maybe 1'; on each side..Nope still too much.
If it's a ';tiny bit'; longer, an inch or two, then it won't damage the tank but I gotta say it will look kind of goofy.
not a good idea here are the reasons why

    1) might crack

    2) will look tacky

    3) might fall if you knock it

    4)tank WILL leak

acrylic is very versatile, it'll work on just about anything. What surface(s) does acrylic paint work on?
you can use acrylics watered down a bit on watercolor paper...creates a wash type effect. I have used it this way before and the colors are more brilliant than typical watercolor.

You do have to be careful about plastic, metal or other slick surfaces because acrylics are ';plastic'; and will form a layer that can be peeled off or crack if too thick.
depend on which plastics, i painted a couple of stuff on my wall, sometimes you can get plastci objects such as door stops that will say ';paintable'; on the packageing , and no it'd be better to go buy a canvas rather than water color paper, or even the rough side of a posterboard, it will work on untreated metal but will scratch of easily, it works on glass too if it's high quality acrylic, and it's not mixed with much water, as far as other slick surfaces though good luck, cuz ive never had much.
I would not use water color paper and the reason why is because it will draw the moisture out of the paint and leave it very dull . You ( can ) use it on glass, plastic, metal, and tiles. because they are not porous.

Any surface that is really not porous.
    Pretty much everything.

Watercolor paper, or any other paper, will do just fine.

Metal is ok and so is tile...just scuff up the tile first with some sand paper.
Plastic, glass, fabric, almost anything except paper since it is fast drying!

  • Can someone help me with acrylic nails?

What are the curved acrylic nails called?

What surface(s) does acrylic paint work on?

I have acrylic paints, I don't have any canvas, but, I do have watercolor paper. Would the acrylics be good on the watercolor paper? What other surfaces would the acrylics be good on? Please be specific :) (eg. plastic, glass, metal, tile)What surface(s) does acrylic paint work on?
acrylic is very versatile, it'll work on just about anything.

Plastic, glass, fabric, almost anything except paper since it is fast drying!
    paper, metal

Are there any flexible partials made that do not contain acrylic?

I need a partial for front teeth do to a motorcycle accident. Do they make them without acrylic materials and if so, how much do they cost? I need something flexible but something that will also not put alot of stress on the bone under the nose, as i broke it in the accident and it will be a thin bone. I cant afford all the root canals etc. and the stabalizer bar i have is to let the bone heal, but teeth are still loose. Might be better off pulling them and getting a partial!?Are there any flexible partials made that do not contain acrylic?
Well I am in Maryland and a flexible partial at the office I worked at was $1100 it is very thin and yes made out of acrylic but a different type thats why it is so thin and flexible and the tone of the gum can be shaded to your shade.

Can you use nail polish top coat on top of acrylic paint as a clear coat?

I did a custom paint job on my Tippmann 98 paintball gun which is made of metal. When I just did the lettering, I found that the acrylic 'tomato red' paint was pretty dull, so I was wondering if I could add nail polish top coat on it to make it shinier and preserve it? If not what should I use?

I want it to match the white gloss enamel that the body is sprayed with.

  • How do you remove acrylic nails?

I've tried soaking my fingers in acetone nail polish, but it isn't working..How do you remove acrylic nails?
JUST PULL IT OFF IT WONT HURT!!How do you remove acrylic nails?
    was going to say acetone,but that's didn't work for you.i don't know
yeah that don't work..there are two ways i knwo of..go to a salon they will remove for about $5 or pry them off....i have some on now that need to come off i am going to let them break first hurts less lol
    Super glue remover
soak the fingers in pure acetone ( not polish remover) . the acrylic will turn into jelly like globs , must be scraped off with a manicure stick, . gently buff the nails afterward. You can get pure acetone at a hardware store, or craft store, or paint store. WARNING read the container, it's highly flammable, will rip off finishes from wood, paint etc... best to this outside on the porch, highly toxic and fatal if ingested. wash your hands afterward, as there will be a white residue, and perhaps dry skin as well use some hand cream when you're done. You can also soak cottonballs in acetone and stick them on the nail for awhile, it is a slow process.
Try using an acrylic hammer with a claw end.
use pure acetone, not nail polish remover.
Go buy the nail remover found at places like Longs Drugs
Take a fake nail and easilly pry the off between the fake nail and the real nail. Hurts like hell but that's what they do at the nail salon.
The best way to remove your nails it to trim the nails, down to the free edge, then soak them.

Get a little (glass, etc.) dish that you won鈥檛 need again and pour some acetone polish remover into the bowl.

Put enough so that when you rest your fingers in it your entire nail is covered. Now, have patience......this may take a while.

Soaking for 5 minutes may be enough but usually won鈥檛 get all the residue. If you are getting impatient, take a cotton ball/pad and rub on them while they are soaking, this can speed up the process.

After that, there might be a few raggedy pieces left, and you can file that mess off.

    Good Luck!
You have to soak for a while. go back and forth between the nail polish remover and warm water. Depending on how well they were put on - it could take a while.

You could also go to a nail salon to have them removed. they have stronger professional stuff.
get straight acetone from the hardware store it eats any plastic or acrylic
Pliers! No, I'm only kidding! Acetone, read the instructions and what ever you do, do not smoke or have any open flames. Use plenty of fresh air as the fumes can be harmful and combustible.

Can you use Future acrylic floor wax on laminate wood floors?

No. Wax, oil, and soap, are things that should never be used on laminate floors. They may look good for a while but all leave behind residue. When this residue builds up and gets dirty it will make your floor dull and patchy. It is also difficult to remove. The best way to keep your laminate looking good is to clean it often with ammonia or vinegar and hot water. Do not soak the floor or allow any water to stand on it.Can you use Future acrylic floor wax on laminate wood floors?
I would test it on about one square foot see how it works. I think it would work alright since the wood is laminate and not real wood. Can you use Future acrylic floor wax on laminate wood floors?
To clean the floors please do not use wax or water to clean them. I would suggest using a laminate/ hardwood cleaner, something like Zep Commercial hardwood %26amp; laminate floor cleaner. It doesn't have to be this particular brand but something like it will suffice. Also, please do not to use multi cleaners that clean laminate, tile, vinyl, ceramic and so forth (all in one cleaner), stick to hardwood/ laminate floor cleaners.

Before using this cleaner wipe all food and liquid spills and sweep or vacuum floor (be sure to raise the bar on the vacuum). Spray a light mist over a small area of the floor. Do not pour cleaner directly on the floor. Use a terry cloth mop or a clean cloth to clean the floor using light, even strokes. Sponges, string mops or saturated cloths may cause streaking. Repeat until finished. For tough marks and stains, spray them directly and wipe. That's it.

Most laminates, if not all, require no-wax cleaners only. If you want to be on the safe side, get with the retailer or the floor's manufacturer to see which brands of cleaners they recommend for your floor to make sure you don't void any warranty.
no, that would be a big mistake.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2100460_apply-sp鈥?/a>How do I preserve a charcoal drawing? Can I spray acrylic?
Yes, acrylic spray is the way to go here. Unless you just want to go out and pay $17.00 for a can of matte Spray fixative ( which is just acrylic lacquer spray anyway ) One thing though, when you fix the sketch, do it from about 2 and a half feet back, that way your skecth will remain pretty detailed and there won't be any wet spots on it.........I use willow all the time, if I don't have acrylic spray fix I just use a can of ';Aquanet hair spray, it's all the same really. Good luck to you.
For a quick fix that is readily available in most homes use hairspray. Be sure to keep at least 6 inches between the can and your work as you spray in even strokes from side to side. The hairspray won't leave a too shiny finish on your work and will keep it safe until you can get something more permanent.
Art supply stores sell a spray fixatif made especially for this purpose.

File them or clip them as short as you can, then soak them in acetone nail polish remover. While they are wet, use the pointed end of a nail file to start around the edges and gently go back and forth under the acrylic nail untill it comes off. It will take a while, but it works. How do you get acrylic nails off at home?
well i am addicted to nails i get them all the time, you would soak them into polish remover for 15 minutes then you would get a credit card and pull them off....its not at all that much painfull as it sounds or you can pay ten fdollars to take them off...
Soaking them in pure acetone is the most effective method of removing acrylic nails. Nail polish remover which contains acetone will work, but it will take much longer since the acetone is diluted with other chemicals. Always use 100% pure acetone.
Soak your nails in Pure Acetone...Then take something like a orangewood stick and push on the nail. The acetone will melt the acrylic off....Finger nail polish won't do anything..It's not strong enough.
soak your nails in nail polish that will loosen up the glue then it should be a lot easier to pull them off.
Soak them in acetone and pull them off.

Does anyone know what medium(s) do I use with acrylic paints for an oily appearance?

I want to do abstract paintings with acrylic paints, but I cannot figure out how to get the results I want. You know how oil looks when dropped into water, beads of oil separate and forms little drops and you can have swirls? I want my paintings to have that appearance. Do I mix any mediums with my paints to achieve that look? I see these paintings, but cannot find out how to get the results I need. Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks.Does anyone know what medium(s) do I use with acrylic paints for an oily appearance?
I would first layer the canvas with a couple coats of gesso, this helps achieve richer colors and can give a nice background for translucent colors.

Then thin down your acrylics with water and paint the oil effect separately from the main picture allowing both to dry. For the little droplets I like using a tooth brush loaded with the color you want (less diluted then the main drop) and draw your thumbnail through the bristles. This is a little hard to control so you may want to use another piece of paper to block the parts you don't want to get it on. Lastly, apply a gloss varnish when it's all dry.

For the project your working on, I would suggest looking into iridescent colors for a really neat effect on a dark background.

    Good luck on your painting.

try this thin down your acrylic and add a few drops of water base Minwax polycrylic protective finish clear gloss don't over mix .

How should I attach acrylic beads to a painting on canvas?

I want to attach some acrylic beads to a painting I'm going to do on canvas. The paint I will use is acrylic.

What glue would hold them on the best? How should I attach acrylic beads to a painting on canvas?
Depending on the ';look'; that you're trying to achieve....there are many possiblities. If you'd just like them stuck onto the canvas, I'd use a glue gun.

I happen to love to incorporate texture throughout my paintings and I use Golden supplies when I want to get really gooey with my canvas. They have gel mediums that are amazing. They run from a low to heavy bodied gels in matte and gloss (depending on the sheen that you'd like). These can be mixed with your beads to create a very runny ';puddle'; (low body) or to create a firm brush stroke which incapsulates the beads (heavy) and shows brush patterns or peaking. Now, mind you, these mediums are white in the tub they come in, but dry CLEAR (like plastic). I find that the gloss dries a bit clearer, but once again, it depends on what you'd like your piece to be as a finished product.

You could also mix a touch of color as a tint to the medium, remembering of course that this product starts out white. A touch of red will turn it pink but dry a beautiful transparent version of the color.....be careful....just a touch will do. And I'd do a test of this, allowing it to dry thoroughly before touching the canvas so that you have the correct transparency and color. I've used this method a lot and covered entire canvas' with it. Some up to 8 feet tall.

A fun tip...use light weight spackle from home depot and a putty knife to create a textural structure on your canvas (maybe push beads into this), let dry and then float a thick coat of tinted gel medium over the top (working flat of course). When entirely dry it creates almost a pool of colored water showing the textural structure beneath.

    Hope this helps.

KimberlyHow should I attach acrylic beads to a painting on canvas?

There is actually a product by Liquitex that has glass beads in it. It is called Glass Bead Medium. But if you have your own beads that you want to use, you could use Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish. This can be mixed with paint, or used as an adhesive to add other materials and as a varnish on the finished painting. It has a glossy sheen.
Glitter glue, acrylic molding paste, silicon caulking, and a matte acrylic varnish should hold them. You could add some heavier acrylic paint you used or oils and this will hold them too.

What are some tips on landscape painting with a watercolor-acrylic mixture?

e.g. prepping canvas and coats on finished painting, also shippingWhat are some tips on landscape painting with a watercolor-acrylic mixture?
You'll need to apply the watercolor and acrylic in separate layers to protect your brushes. Acrylic is made to be opaque, but thinning it a bit with water will help it to look a little more transparent. Keep the water below 30% of your mix, though. It weakens the paint and causes it to break down.

Acrylic paint can be made to look like water color. The drawback with using it that way is that it doesn't come back off the paper the way watercolor will. There are no lifting techniques for acrylic paint. Once it's there, it's there.

Several manufacturer's of artist's materials make a watercolor canvas. It will say on the package whether it needs to be gesso-ed or not.

This is a very tough polyurethane that wont absorb oxygen as much as it will react with oxygen and wont milk up, turn blue and wont yellow your work either. it comes in a variety of finishes and is very dependable for me, I suggest it to other artists and my students for oils and acrylics and I dont suggest the use of acrylic gloss mediums for any type of painting other than commercial wall finishes because it has such a short lifespan. There are other makers of decent varnishes but minwax is more international in it's sales so you might have a good shot with the product. let me know if you cant get it in aussieland and I'll see if I can send you some.Professionals only please.. Can you recommend a good gloss varnish that won't milk up over black acrylic?
this is what i do, i use pva glue, it works a treat, at first it looks real strange and you think you have made a mess of it. but when it dries its clear. i have been using PVA on my acrylic paintings for years now. since an art teacher thought me the trick when i said my paintings looked so chalky
silly as it sounds, i've used clear wood varnish before and it's worked just fine. if it isn't made of a solvent, it can be painted with using acrylics. satin finishes give a nice, subtle iridescence without affecting the color adversely, but you may want to test that for your own result satisfaction. just make sure you're well ventilated and all should be well. let me know how it turns out for you! ;-)
oh sure that is a sustance called ';Preserve it'; you can get it with gloss or without. It is really the stuff for a proffessional artist to get and not live without. It is great stuff. Your painting won't yellow with age. Other than that there is Kamar Varnish. I have used both of them. Both of them are okay. I am a proffessional artist and have shown my art in a gallery.

How different is watercolor painting to acrylic?

oh, and which is easier. watercolor or acrylic??

acrylic ryt?How different is watercolor painting to acrylic?
Watercolor paints and acrylic paints use the same pigments (colors). Some pigments are transparent; others are opaque. Watercolors and acrylics have different binders, so watercolor paintings remain water-soluble (they will smear if gotten wet), but acrylic paints dry to a hard, waterproof plastic. This difference also make watercolors easy to clean up, whereas acrylics are easy to clean up while still wet, but not once they dry. You can still scrape or scrub them off smooth glass or plastic.

Watercolors are generally layered, with a lower layer color modifying the color that is painted on top of it. Most watercolorists work from light to dark, and take advantage of the high degree of transparency that a watercolor wash affords. Traditional watercolorists will leave the white of the paper for the whites of the painting, although many painters break with tradition and use small amounts of opaque white.

Acrylics are water-soluble, but it is best to thin them with an acrylic medium rather than water, in order to make sure that there is enough polymer resin remaining to dry into a smooth surface. Clean your brushes thoroughly while they are still wet; otherwise the dried plastic acrylic paint will render your brushes useless.

Acrylics can be used in great variety of styles, from thin and transparent like watercolors, to thick impasto techniques like oil paintings. There are a couple of excellent books out on innovative and experimental acrylic painting techniques. I like to use acrylics on watercolor paper, painting the background using watercolor techniques, and the foreground using oil painting techniques. Many acrylics artists prefer canvas (which I also use at times).

Layering and correcting mistakes is easier with acrylics, because you can easily paint over a mistake with a new opaque layer.

When using watercolors, your new layer wets the color underneath, which can be useful for blending. It also requires finesse in order to avoid smearing the under-painting or creating muddy colors. Acrylics has the opposite problem: The paint dries quickly, and then it becomes impossible to blend the dried layer. If you want to re-blend, you need to do it before the paint dries. There are acrylic additives (media) that will slow the drying process. There are also some new types of acrylics that behave a little more like oil painting in their ability to stay moist and blend for a longer period of time.

Beginning watercolorists often paint pale, washed-out looking paintings. This is from using too much water, or too weak of a wash solution. For the darkest accents, watercolor can be used straight from the tube, with little or no water added.

I love both watercolors and acrylics. Watercolors requires more skills to obtain the textures and effects that you want. Watercolors require more up-front planning. Acrylics allows you to make corrections and develop the painting as an oil-painter would. It also has a lot of versatility. How different is watercolor painting to acrylic?
    yeah they're different
you can't mistakes when you use watercolor. once your brush touches the paper it's a done deal. with acryllics, however, you can make mistakes and still be able to erase and redo them. personally, i think that though watercolor is difficult to handle, it gives a better effect.
    The basic differences are these:

The amount of water (your solvent) is the main difference.

Acrylics you can work in layers covering the previous one. And you can work from dark to light or vice versa. You can do pretty much anything you want and still come up with the painting you want.

Watercolor needs planning. Changing your painting midway, adding or removing objects is almost impossible. You also need to work from light to dark.

    Note:

It is very possible to make a watercolor painting using (good) acrylic paint. Just add water.

Be sure you use nice, heavy paper. It is really unnerving to have your paper warp while painting.

Both techniques require skil, training and loads of experimentation.
The answers so far have pretty good information. Artist quality paper is the most essential factor in painting in watercolors. The best papers are made in France and Italy and it's most economical to buy in 56 X 76 cm (22 X30 in.) sheets of at least 300g/m2 weight, (140 lb).

When you look at the prices for watercolor paint you'll be shocked compared to oils and acrylics, but the paint lasts a long time.

Do not buy watercolor ';sets'; because you will pay for brushes or paint colors you will never use. Most of the pigments in acrylics are used in watercolor paints, so you have some knowledge of their color mixing

    characteristics.

The difference is that in watercolors, they can be transparent, semi- transparent, semi-opaque or opaque. For brushes, get a #3 liner or rigger, #s 6 and 12 round and a 1/2in. and 1in. flat.

You can not interchange brushes between the two mediums. You will also need a watercolor palette and you will not need to clean it after a painting session like for acrylics. The paints readily activate with water.
