Can u paint the inside of ur house with acrylic paint??

Instead of oil based? just curious..im gonna paint my living room and i havent a clueCan u paint the inside of ur house with acrylic paint??
As long as the walls have not been previously painted with oil-based paint, you should use latex wall paint. Latex is water-based.

You wouldn't want to use acrylic. Theoretically, you COULD, but artists' acrylics are expensive (a small tube of certain colors costs nearly as much as a gallon of latex paint) and craft acrylics are not as colorfast as latex ... and would cost much more to paint walls with. Can u paint the inside of ur house with acrylic paint??
Some paint labels can be confusing to the cosumer.

Acrylic is an ingredient found in alot of interior and exterior water-based paints. Especially in higher end paints. Yes, you can use acrylic latex (water based means to water soluable, clean up with soap and water).

Go to a paint store and get advice on products and application for your home.

If your not sure whats on your walls, get nail polish remover, put on cotton ball, rub onto surface. If it comes off like it was like nail polish, its oil, if it comes off but stubbornly, its water based. If its oil. Get primer to prepare your surfaces before you paint your top coat.

Clean your surface, patch any holes, prime, then top coat.

I wouldn't recommend any oils, its high in volatile fumes containing formaldehyde, tolulene, etc. which can make some people sick. Water based is safer, low VOCs and better for you and the environment.
do you mean latex water based paints??

water based paints are sooo much easier to use than oil based. they are

easier to work with,

less off gassing (smelly)

much easier to clean up.

much less $$$

now there are times oil paints are better but for most projects go with the much less expensive water based paints

talk to your paint seller about details and how to's - painting is easy and fun. even if you need 2 coats its still cheaper than most oil-based paints

get a good quality paint of either type

get good quality brushes and rollers (the cheaper ones are not really cheaper if you have to re-do work because they didnt do the job)

take your time - pay attention to the details

first CLEAN your walls - tsp is the best product (but white vinager will work to- as you want to remove dirt and oils- its IMPORTANT and too many people skip this step and wonder why their paint job doesnt look 'just right'

use your painters tape to protect the areas you dont want to paint

remove all of the switch plate covers and use a piece of the blue painters tape on each recepticle to cover the switch or the plug recepticle (keeps the paint AWAY from the electricity which is a good thing!)

remove door handles - its tacky to do everything else right and have your handles have paint spots!

use your drop cloths (less clean up) in the long run the painting itself doesnt take a lot of time but if you dont do the detailing it still wont look just right.

and sooooo many colors thats the fun part

have fun!!
