What is the best paint to use oils, water, house paint , acrylic etc and why? Thank you?

There is no such thing as the best paint to use, its all down to the artist.

I'm studying for a degree in Painting (Fine Art) in London and on my course there are artists that use Oil/Watercolour/House Paint/Acrylic.

All have their positives.

Anyone who tells you, that one is better than the other will often not know much about modern painting. There is no formula for what painting you want to do/ what paint you should use.

Personally i like Oil and watercolour because i have most experience with these. What is the best paint to use oils, water, house paint , acrylic etc and why? Thank you?
First off...you are being way too vague

What are you painting?

What are you painting on?

What do you even plan to paint once you know what you are painting on or your subject?

for instance...

say you want to paint an abstract splatter painting...well you wont get very far with oil, or watercolor....

say you want to paint a renaissance style portrait...you wont get far with acrylics

so let me answer your question with a question...

WHAT ARE YOU PAINTING????

oil paints = realistic, clean, well blended, slow drying, oil based pigments.

watercolors = pigments soluble in water, used very sparingly and spread even

Acrylics = fast drying paint that uses water as a catalyst, cleans with water, and is made from plastic.

House Paint = is latex paint, not meant for artistic coverage, but suitable for certain abstract work.

HOWEVER, maybe its not the time to be painting if you don't even know what you want to paint with, what you are painting, and you have no idea what paints are what...

pick up a book, or do some research online, then get a better idea of what it means to paint and pick paint mediums.

that or you can buy a small tube of EACH kind of paint, and experiment with all of them on a small piece of canvas...see how they feel and follow instructions.

Ask your art store sales person for help. What is the best paint to use oils, water, house paint , acrylic etc and why? Thank you?
I personally like oils because it takes a while to dry and you can spend more time working with it. I like watercolors too, but you have less control so it's tougher for me.
I like using water colours because it dries fast and you can paint on top of it without it blending in to the other colour.
